Mission
Early this year, a group of community-minded tennis nuts banded together to gather support for the much needed renovation of the courts at McCarren Park. Many of our members have been playing at the McCarren courts for ten years or more, and in that time, we've come to appreciate the courts as a true center of the Williamsburg & Greenpoint communities, a place where players from many different countries, races and religious backgrounds gather in (relative) harmony to hit the yellow ball.
Unfortunately, we also have been waiting for more than ten years for the city to undertake any type of repair or restoration of the courts, and in the meantime, the courts have worn down to the asphalt, the windscreens have fallen down, and there are cracks everywhere. Given the backdrop of a restored McCarren Park, the forthcoming McCarren Pool, and of course all of the luxury condos sprouting up in the neighborhood, we think it's time to take matters into our own hands and raise private donations to undertake these needed repairs.

I am one of those tennis nuts just back from playing in LA with family and friends and usually play at the Central Park or Riverside outdoor courts. I have not ever played at your McCarren site. How would this upper west sider get to the courts? Take the # 1, 2 or 3 IRT trains? Thank you and my name is Dinah Day, 4.0 player..

Take 1, 2 or 3 to 14th, transfer to L train, get off at the Bedford St. stop. You can walk from there, 7 blocks up Bedford Ave.

Finally some intelligent and dedicated people will do what we have been waiting for so long. I live in Greenpoint for about 30 – years and play tennis as much as I can, however the surface of the courts are in terrible shape and need to be repaired asap. I cannot thank enough to all the fantastic people who give their time and effort for making our tennis courts a class act. I am sure that all the area residents are excited and ready to help out.
